One commonly asked question is, "What's the difference between JBoss EAP and JBoss AS?"

JBoss Enterprise Application Platform (EAP) and JBoss Application Server (AS) are two separate entities under the JBoss umbrella. This article will help to define the two counterparts.

JBoss EAP is not the same product as JBoss AS. The JBoss website lists them as two different entities.

In short, JBoss is an open-source application server completely driven by the JBoss.org community. JBoss Enterprise Application Platform (EAP) is a rigorously tested, stable, supported platform that integrates code from the JBoss Application server, JBoss Hibernate Framework, and JBoss Seam Framework into a single distribution. This distribution comes with the option of a multi-year maintenance policy.

Keep in mind that Jboss EAP and JBoss AS use different versioning systems, as this could be a potential source of confusion.
