- RFC 5322 (section 3.2.3) defines the allowed characters in the local part of an email address. These are US-ASCII alphabetical and numerical ones, plus a few additional printable ones and a few special characters that need to be surrounded by quote.
- RFC 6533 is about transmiting an email message using the SMTPUTF8 extension and Internationalized Email Headers, but both are experimental protocols non followed by Liferay DXP.
- As conclusion, non-US-ASCII characters are not allowed in the local part of an email address.
