Issue
- In our Liferay 7.4 instance, editors encounter an error when attempting to publish an article without a Friendly URL, which differs from the behavior in Liferay 7.1.
Environment
- Liferay DXP 7.4
Resolution
-
The discrepancy between Liferay 7.1 and 7.4 is due to how they handle Friendly URLs. In Liferay 7.1, a Friendly URL was indeed mandatory; however, if you left the field empty and published the article, the system would auto-generate a default Friendly URL.
-
In Liferay 7.4, the Friendly URL for the default language must be filled. If you are working with old articles from previous versions of Liferay that don't contain a Friendly URL on its default translation, you can:
- Fill in the Friendly URL field with a keyword or phrase that best encapsulates the content of the article.
- Copy the Friendly URL from the other translated version if applicable. If the article is translated into other languages, it's advisable to translate the Friendly URL accordingly.
Additional Information
- Introduction to Friendly URL's
- When localizing content, translating the Friendly URL can improve the user experience and SEO, making the content more accessible to users in different languages. Always ensure to use a relevant and descriptive Friendly URL for your articles.
