Journal Article modified date changes if web content folder or web content is moved to another folder

Issue

  • When I create a web content folder that contains a lot of web content and the folder is moved to another one, the web content modified date changes to the date when the folder was moved. The same is also true when we move web content from one folder to another one.

Reproduction Steps:

Test 1 (moving folder to another one)

1. Set up DXP 7.3
2. Go to Content & Data --> Web Content and change the display style to the table, so we can see the modified date.
3. Create 2 web content folders (folder1 and folder2).
4. Go to folder1 and create basic web content in it and check the "Modified date" of the web content.
5. Click on the kebab menu beside folder1 and select "Move", then on the popup, select folder2 and click "Move" to move folder1 to folder2.
6. Check the modified date of the created web content.

Actual Result: The modified date has changed to when folder1 was moved.

Test 2 (moving web content to another folder)

1. Create basic web content and check the modified date.
2. Click on the kebab menu beside the web content and select "Move" then move it to another folder.
3. Check the modified date of the web content.

Actual Result: The modified date of the web content changed to when the article was moved to another folder.

The expected result: The modified date of the web content should not be affected by either moving the web content folder to another one or moving web content to another folder.

Environment

  • Liferay 7.3
  • Liferay 7.4

Resolution

  • The current behavior is expected and a limitation of the product. The model changes as its folder ID and tree path change, therefore being an auditable model the system cannot update it without changing its modification date.
  • A feature request addressing the current case has been reviewed: LPS-189845. However, it was concluded that it is not a priority.
