Web Pages Do Not Load on Internet Explorer 9

This article documents a known issue with Internet Explorer 9 (IE9) when accessing the Liferay Digital Experience Platform 7.0. Upon accessing the browser page /web/guest/home, the page is blank (as shown in the image below).

Resolution

Status: Workaround Available 

Microsoft ended support for Internet Explorer 9 after January 12, 2016. Users are advised to upgrade to Microsoft Edge which is supported by Microsoft and on the Liferay DXP 7.0 Compatibility Matrix.

In the meantime, customers have the following options:

  1. For customers who are not required to provide IE9 support, use another browser such as Firefox or Google Chrome.
  2. Administrators have the option to disable the SPA framework on IE9. In the portal-ext.properties, enter: javascript.single.page.application.enabled=false. Although the page will load, there is a corresponding loss of certain functionalities and overall user experience (as shown in the image below).
