Internet Explorer 11 Support Coverage
Liferay Digital Experience Platform (DXP) is compatible with Internet Explorer 11, however, the level of compatibility varies with the version of DXP being used.
For All Versions
Microsoft recommends using Microsoft Edge as your default browser and supports Internet Explorer 11 for backward compatibility. If business needs require the use of Internet Explorer 11 for legacy programs other than Liferay, then Microsoft recommends using Enterprise Mode with Edge Legacy or IE11 Mode with the latest version of Edge. This mode enables specific websites to open in and Internet Explorer 11 compatible more automatically.
Liferay always recommends using the latest available technology tested as compatible for the specific version of Liferay DXP. This means that Liferay recommends using the latest compatible version of Chrome, Firefox, Edge, or Safari. For more details on the compatible versions please see the compatibility matrix:
Liferay DXP 7.3 and 7.2
Liferay DXP 7.3 and 7.2 compatibility with Internet Explorer 11 is limited. This means that any issues reported with the compatibility of Internet Explorer 11 and DXP 7.2 will be resolved on a case-by-case effort as determined by the cost and perceived value of the resolution. Some reported issues deemed to be unintended behavior may not be resolved if the behavior is deemed to be a limitation with Internet Explorer 11. Any issues reported with the compatibility of DXP 7.2 and other compatible browsers which are not limited will be resolved.
Liferay DXP 7.1 and 7.0
Liferay DXP 7.1 and 7.0 offers full compatibility with Internet Explorer 11. Full compatibility means that every Liferay DXP 7.1 or 7.0 feature which is available for use with one browser will be available for use with Internet Explorer 11. Even with full feature availability the technical limitations of Internet Explorer 11 will result in less usability, a worse user interface, or a poor user experience when compared to other, more modern browsers. Since Internet Explorer 11 is not in active development the resolution to reported issues may be workarounds or documented product limitations.
