Unable to install any patch or hotfix on DXP

Issue

• Even after trying with a vanilla instance and restarting the server, the user was unable to install a patch or hotfix.

Environment

• Liferay DXP [all versions ]

Resolution

• The above issue also might happen when the required Java version is not used in the DXP environment. JDK compatibility is for runtime and project build time, whereas the DXP 7.3 source compile is only compatible with JDK 8.

Additional Information

• Before proceeding to install Java:
  
  1. Stop the Liferay server
  2. Kindly take a complete backup of your portal
